Another way in which Willow House advocates for grieving children, teens and families is by increasing awareness about this population - providing consultation and education about their unique and significant needs. This is accomplished through an assortment of services we offer to schools, churches, community groups, and corporations - in fact, we provide this service for any group who is working with and caring for children, teens and families who are or may one day be grieving the death of their mom, dad and spouse or sister, brother and child.
Educational and supportive programs include meetings, workshops and in-services. In addition, professional development training is provided for fellow professionals, often in collaboration with a graduate or undergraduate program in one of the Chicago area universities. Willow House is also available to provide a range of services to those needing brief or comprehensive consultation as well as crisis intervention support.
At Willow House we know that grieving is a normal and healthy response to a life-altering experience. Unfortunately, too much of our culture has a difficult time supporting the needs of grieving children, teens and their families. This difficulty usually stems from a sheer lack of understanding of the grieving process itself and the ripple effect of grief on those affected by a death, especially children. The goal of the Community Outreach and Education Program at Willow House is to educate and empower those who work with, and care for, grieving individuals. We seek to provide the skills and resources for caretakers to be understanding and effective helpers to those needing support. It is inevitable that death will touch your community. Willow House is here to help you prepare for and respond to this challenging inevitability.
Willow House offers professional education as a state certified provider of social work Continuing Education Units.
